About Community Relations

A Commitment to Corporate Citizenship image

Corporations can promote their sound development only by cooperating with one another and by growing together in various relationships with the people around them, regional societies, nations, the globe, etc. In this sense, corporations are strongly required to cooperate with, and have responsibility to, societies as a "good corporate citizen" as in the case of each individual person.
Since its inception, IBM has positively and globally engaged in support activities for affluent social environments by emphasizing "contribution to society" as one of its important corporate missions. This is because IBM considers it important not only to provide better products and services, but also to be a "good corporate citizen" who can fulfill social responsibility by making efforts to benefit the public at all times.
Similarly, IBM Japan considers that the "good corporate citizen" should be "a company that is helpful to society" and "a company that makes people's lives and societies affluent," and aims at providing social contributions in association with global activities and conducting business activities to become an organization indispensable for society. Under the slogan of "One with society," IBM Japan conducts these activities by counting education as the top priority, pursuing things necessary to develop an affluent Japanese society including science, technology, culture and social welfare, and providing solutions to problems that utilize IBM's technology, know-how and skills.
In addition to conducting corporate activities, IBM Japan has established various support systems that can positively support voluntary activities at the initiatives of employees with respect to working hours, money and information under the concept that "IBM's employees must be good citizens first." We consider that it is important to continue these activities even though they are inconspicuous.
