Web 2.0 has being become extremely popular throughout the world as a new way of utilizing the Internet. There has also been a dramatic increase in the number of users of Web 2.0 services including blogs and SNS (Social Networking Services). Web 2.0 has a variety of attractions such as the possible new business models and expansions in collaboration, and is certain to become useful in the business of the future. On the other hand, there are a number of points that need to be given consideration when utilizing enterprise IT (Information Technology) systems and Web 2.0 together.
With Web 2.0, there is also a well-known method called "mashup" in which programs and data available in the Internet are combined for unique objectives. When enterprise users begin to create business applications using mashup, a variety of effects on the enterprise's IT system become possible. This is where a different approach that takes both security and governance into account becomes necessary.
At IBM, we have already started to provide tools, infrastructure, products and information services for developers with this in mind to allow the safe utilization of Web 2.0 in enterprise systems.
