Open standards are industry-wide standards decided by standards bodies. Open source is a mechanism for the collaboration between software vendors and the community.
Open architecture is system architecture that combines open standards and open source, and achieves software environments independent of hardware architecture and OS.
This article explains the ideas behind these three "Open" concepts and the IBM approach to them. The article also explains when software technology is developed, how the "Open" concepts contribute. Moreover, it introduces some of the latest open technologies and their prospects.
