No.63 The Next Generation of Project Management

The Perspectives of this Special Issue

The last time that PROVISION featured project management was in 2005. In the 4 years since then, the world's economy and society have witnessed dramatic changes as we endure a recession said to come "once in a hundred years". To deal with drastic changes in a speedy and steady manner, companies and people alike must make choices and set priorities.
Globalization is progressing with vigor. In "The World Is Flat", published in 2005 by Thomas L. Friedman. Business and management in every industry and field of endeavor are facing a situation in which progress is no longer possible without globalism and international division of labor. In parallel with competition on a global scale, commoditization is advancing, making it ever more important to differentiate or find the uniqueness necessary to survive in a world where "differences" are hard to claim.
It is because of this unsparing and difficult era that we've chosen the PROVISION theme to focus on project management that embodies varied needs on a definite timeline, with management ability, leadership, and implementation capability as key topics. In rolling out a business strategy rapidly, a project that drives multiple internal and external organizations can be an effective method. What's more, the essence of project management is expanding to meet the demands of today, taking business and service perspectives. In concert, standards and management frameworks are changing as well to become "predictive" of new situations.
Both economics and life are subject to highs and lows, but by communicating recent trends in project management we hope to present a substantive point of view that helps us get through this period in stalwart fashion.
